Hi. Has anyone visited these dunes? It is a state park with a designated ORV area. I'm wondering if a stock 95 Sport 4x4 with the 235/75-15 tires and a 3.27 ratio is adequate equipment for driving on sand dunes. If anyone is interested, Car & Driver used this area to test a Cherokee and a new Nissan. The article is in the July issue. Thanks for any advice.

To drive your vehicle on sand (stock or modified) you only to need to air down the tires to 8-10 psi, others have even air it down to 6 psi. You'd basically float on the sand surface instead of sinking into it as the tires roll over the sand.

Thanks. I had heard of airing down the tires for beaches and such, but I wasn't sure about dunes since they are predominantly wind deposited and can have steep inclines. Thanks again. I'll be going as soon as I get a chance. JJ

JJ,
Your Explorer should do fine,I run a 92 sport out there all the time and its all stock other then the 31x10.50r15 uniroyal larados I have on it with 3.73 gears. If you do end up going there make sure you have another buddy with a truck to pull you out..or maybe even back home because I see people go in all the time a break down beyond repair with a quick fix....
P.S. Do yourself a favor!don't go on a holiday weekend!!!!!
