Since the trip is going to be so long for you guys do you want to maybe camp over friday night so you don;t have to leave at the crack of dawn to make it here?

What time do you guys plan on getting on the dunes?? I'm use to getting on the road at around 6:00am anyways so I should be able to get there around 9-9:30.
Just wondering. And for some reason I thought the 27th was a Sun. But I can probably get off work for Sat anyways.

I will be unable to go on the 6th due to work but I will be able to go the 7th. I live in Albion, so if some wants to meet up somewere at go that would be cool if the 7th is a better day for you too.

Silver Lake State park has a campgound. If you would like to camp there then you wouldn;t have to aorry about much the next morning. There are also campgounds/motels near where i am.

I was thinking tenetivly that the people that want to meet up with me here and caravan up would meet around 9-9:30, then we would arrive at the dunes around 10:30.

I can do that...No Problem...just need an address...and I'll be there.

Looking at the calendar Sunday the 7th looks better for me. I got to work and my buddy who really wants to go has to work also. If you can make a change that would be great if not. I will just go up on Sunday. Let me know. One more thing. How many people are planning on going? I got 2 trucks and 3 three people total with me. I was thninking we could have a cook out while up there. Not sure how cold it will be. But I am game for anything.

Eric
A tailgate/cook party out would be awesome. Since I am here at college I have none of the necessary supplies, but if someone wants to plan a cookout, thats would be a great end (or break) in a fun day of wheeling.

Yeah..Im game for that too...I could bring some stuff...Just let me know. Wish me luck on the Lift this weekend.

You planning to go straight to the dunes or did you want to meet up here? I know how to get to the dunes, but I don;t know exit numbers or whatnot so I will call and get those details and post later. Once you get to Grand Rapids it's fairly easy to get to my school. Just take Lake Michigan Drive (M45) west, go past M11 and over the river, then you'll see us on the left once you cross the river.

If you want to go the 7th, there isn;t much stopping me from shooting up there again on the 7th. If anyone camps out there then they can join us on the 7th too. Only thing is I got class 9am monday so i would;t be able to stay real late.

I think it would easier if I just met up with you guys at your school so detailed directions to that would be fine.
I'm puttin on my 2" BL and Tranny cooler. I have 31's now...once they wear out I will put on some 32's.

I'm definitely interested, I'll check the calendar and let you know. I've been past silver lakes, and once took one of the buggy tours. Now that I have 4wd I'd love to see what dune driving is like. It sounds like fun! One concern I have is that I've heard sand driving is really hard on the truck - what happens to people on these trips who break down - how do they get home, etc.? I'd be nervous going from Illinois all the way up there and then screwing up my truck and end up being stranded. After all it's my daily driver. Any experiences with that?

One person overheated his tranny last fall at the dunes, but was able to drive home. If the truck breaks down, there are several tow services near the dunes. Espnfreak who is going to the dunes too is from South Elgin, IL so if one of you break down the other could ride home with the other person. The tranny overheat is the only problem I've had at the dunes to date.

Unfortunatly I do have an experience with that:rolleyes: I was the one that overheated the tranny. As for what you do? Try to fix itas best as you can... otherwise the only way is to tow... kind of like any place that you go offroading though.

I can't believe I haven't seen this thread. I'm interested in going one of those weekends, but prolly not with the explorer. Can I bring a heep or isn't that allowed?? At least an Explorer will be pulling it there!!

There he goes...already breaking the heep out. The more the merrier.

I will talk to my boss today and see if I can get the 6th off. I really want to meet some other people who share the same passion I do about Explorers. I can be there the 6th at 9am at your college no problem.

Eric

Hey Michigander,
you can only bring the heep if you'll make up over those series of like 3 huge mountains. you know what I mean...We'll see...cause I did that in my X last time..lets see what this heep has! ;-)
