Siphoning out ATF fluid prior to dropping pan

I was planning on doing my own ATF fluid change and I was wondering to decrease the chances of fluid pouring out of the pan and making a mess, is it possible to siphon out the fluid (or most of it) through the dipstick? I have a handheld siphon tube with a squeeze bulb and have used it to change the power steering fluid. Does the dipstick tube reach all the way into the pan?

...:scratch...I'm not sure if that is a possibility ...

...I got tired of taking the atf bath and it might be worth doing now, when you get the pan off..
