When Tata motors bought Land Rover, they basically copied a lot of technology. That's what happens when companies buy each other out. I'm glad Ford is the only company who chooses to stop buying other companies out and just focusing on building their own lineup. Many companies should follow this and the economy would be much better.

(Sorry for the economic theory. Just saying Ford is doing a good job) ^ ^

I still think Ford should start a new division called 'Sportsman' and build trucks tailored to luxury off road like Jeep.

Never thought I'd see Luxury and Jeep in the same sentence. I don't think the Grand Cherokee is any more luxurious that the Explorer Limited. At least that is the impression I get looking at the interior photos.

I think it's the same designer who did the exterior for land rover and x.

Ford Europe still runs land rover and jaguar. In my job I deal with ford europe for any issues related to land rover or jaguar.

Copying:

Your talking about Tata copying ford?? Where do you think Ford got the terrain response and the floating roof line for the new EX? Land Rover.

Luxury:

It all depends on how you define luxury. Jeep Overland is using real wood trim, a wood steering wheel, leather doors and dash, leather piping, and air suspension...so it is considered my most as being more luxurious.

Peter, remember I have both. The JGC is HUGELY more luxurious than the X. There is just no comparison. Funny that I see your text. We were just talking about this exactly on our way back from dinner (in the JGC).

i love the way the evoque looks.... 2 dr especially.

Evoque, highly priced and heavyily optioned Escape.... My 2 cents

The Evoque has more in common with the LR2 than the Escape - both use the EUCD platform. There are obvious design cues with the Ex, too, but that's no bad thing IMHO.

I had the opportunity to poke around a couple of Evoques a few weeks ago. It's a fine looking vehicle. But I wouldn't trade my Ex - I need the seven seats! :D

Yeh the Evoque isn't the Ex's twin, it's a lil smaller inside but a lot lighter... and unlike the dogslow ecoboost Explorer, the Evoque is pretty quick, one recent test just got 6.7 to 60. It's based on the LR2 with some tech to further lighten it using aluminum and magnesium, think it weighs just under 4k lbs.

I know a guy that owns two Toyota dealerships and he made a comment to me years ago about Ford, GM, Mercedes etc. buying up auto and other companies. He said Toyota doesn't do it and they thought it was better to develop their own brands and start brands like Scion under the corporate umbrella. Basically, Toyota thinks if a company is doing a good job developing their products then they don't need to buy other brands. I see Ford, Mercedes etc. now following the Toyota philosophy and I wonder if it will pay dividends down the road. I don't see companies like Fiat benefiting from buying Chrysler in the long run. In fact I don't see them owning Chrysler for long.
