Since my neighbor has gotten an MIG welder, I have choosen to design and have him weld me one. I also am in the process of redesigning the roof rack so it folds down when not in use.

This is in the wrong forum, I'm going to go ahead and move it... by the way, what part of the front end are you looking for? Front diff or the steering portion of it? I've got both... if you go to http://bart.is-s.com/~explorers/madams/ theres some pictures of my explorer, go to some of the seperate pages to see the skid plates. I'll try to find some good pics and post them.

ok here's the pics of my skid plates. They are made by David Meisner.

It helps if you upload them first... :)

OK matt....spill it. I've already got a skid-plate for the diff, but I'd like one for the stearing too. Is that one custom made with a welder or is it a bolt on(I'm guessing custom). If it is how is it done. I can see that it's attached through some holes already in the frame in the front, but what's holding it on in the back???? Is it being held on with just that brace by the sway bar???? How much did it cost you to get it done????

Leebo, dave made that one today. it only works on explorers with the superlift anti-sway bar drop-down bracket (which is what its attached to on the right side and the left side). ALso up front it has one bolt on each side running through the frame (its shares a bolt with the tow hooks). By the way theres nothing attaching it in the rear, its attached just on the sides with the sawy-bar drop-down brackets and the front through th ebolts in the frame. I don't recall how much it cost and I'm not sure if Dave is making either skid plate anymore, I haven't talked to him in a while.

once again...dreams killed cause I'm a small time stocker.....for now. :)

Matt,

What is that skid plate made of? It looks like 1/2" steel!?!?!?!

I just finished making one for the front of my truck - I used 1/4" aluminum. I had the use of a brake in California to bend the plate. It bolts to the rear of the front bumper, and to the crossmember in front of the steering box. I'll have to post a picture of it.

Unfortunately for you Explorer folks, the Ranger front end is slightly different. I think you could build one like I did, but the mounting would not be quite the same. The nice thing about mine is it does not depend on a lift to mount it.

Scott, 1/4 inch steel as I recall.
