Anyone have one on their Explorer or other vehicle?

I've never even seen one in person?

Benefits, drawbacks, does it weeken the body structure of a vehicle?

Thanks in advance.

the only thing i have seen close to that was the full lenth moonroof on the jurasic park explorers and that de-roofed rollover Rick had for a while.

if your thinking bout a rag top, you'll run into the same problems with wranglers: loose heat in the winter, noisy on the freeway, prone to leaking. In addition you'll also weaken the structure of the X, as it was never intended to go topless. You'd prolly nead to put in a cage, though thats not that hard. I think CoryL covers it in his new Explorer Dead Link Removed .

Personally, i'd love a big glass moonroof :bounce:

Can't say that I have seen one yet. Mine will be someday. :D I will either make my own top or see what it would cost to get a company like CanBack to make one that would work.

I have seen some of these on old VW vans. Some were made with a canvas sunroof that was almost the whole length of the roof. I'm not sure when they started this but I think for most years in the 60's it was available. They usually had a lot of small windows along the edge of the roof and sometimes the rear pillars had curved windows to let a lot of light in.

I have a picture of one that I can email to you if you want.

Below is a link to some ragtop kits.

It might be something to consider, but it's risky for a do-it-yourself person because if you don't get it right you'll be left with a huge hole or leaks.

I think it would be so nice to have one, ya know, get that early bronco look going :D

mine is going to be a custom wrangler top....
