This is my 2nd post. My 94 is so far so good. The question is when you put the truck in drive it takes about 3 seconds for the transmission to shift into drive. Is this a slow front pump and I have to deal with it until the trans goes or is it maybe something fixable. Look forward to hearing from you

Thanks, It's going in for a look over. I keep everyone posted.

Could be low or old fluid also.may need a fluid and filter change plus bands adjusted;)

I'm going with low fluid and cold temps. Is is slow to engage after you've driven enough for the tranny to reach normal operating temp?

Good point, I should never assume that people actually check the transmission fluid level.

Fluid level good and it gets a little better, but only by a millisecond.

You know to check wile warm and running after a cycle thro all the gear right? If so then agree with FR, check bands and possible servo.or just old.lol

Yes that is how I checked the fluid level. Thanks for the replies. I am going to have the truck looked at by my mechanic and will get back to you on the outcome. I have high hopes.

Well I got lucky to a point. The truck is in great shape as reported by the mechanic. Trans service performed. Now its still takes about 8 seconds first time into drive. about 5 to 6 seconds after that. Still looking for help and have an appointment next week at the local AAmco. Know the owner.

Knowing the owner of this local Aamco was not such a good thing after all. What a disaster. I had to call them for status checks. except for he estimate and completion. Was over charged. They used a damaged oil cooler on my truck. left the exhaust leaking. Broke an already broken grille and had the truck for 2 weeks. Called corporate to ask them about taking it to different location for the 10 day check up and explained why and they turned it over to the original location who wanted to do free work that the truck did not need. After they ruined my first and only vehicle I purchased for fun. Now its an aggravating money pit.
DOES ANYONE IN THIS FORUM KNOW A GOOD MECHANIC IN PHILADELPHIA AREA.

A leaking valve body, valve body gaskets, worn manual slide valve, loose valve body bolts or a bad modulator will cause a delayed shift into drive. Does it have a delayed 1 - 2 shift when it's cold, but not when it's warm? It could have a sticking or worn governor.
