Hi.Yesterday i was driving my truck, parked it and went to buy some things. When i came back to the truck, i observed some ATF in the floor. I looked under the truck and noticed there were ATF , relatively under all the truck (this is, transmision, t-case, muffler, gas tank, cats, everything. I could not determine where the leak started right there, so i jumped into the truck, fired it up, and put the gear selector in drive. The truck only could started to walk when i accelerated to 2000 rpms (just like when there is not enough ATF fluid) and i was able to limp to my home very slowly.

EDIT: The dipstick in the tranny oil pan shows there are enough oil, a little lower but there was oil. Without oil i`ll have towed DEFINITIVELY the truck.

So, im not having the O/D light flashing, but i have the CEL on, which is P0401 (and the CEL lit before this problem like 6 days,so i guess this is not related with the tranny problem, but i dont know)

So, what i need to do ? check for leaks ? where ?

Somebody told me what i could have trashed the transmision internals, so feel free to point what tests i need to do.

any help is greatly appreciated.

By the way, my truck is an explorer 96 V6 ohv 4WD, with 98,000 miles

Ok, i`ve checked and i think i found the problem. The leak is coming from the seal between the engine and the transmision. I have inspected in the bellhousing if there are any broken parts but i guess is the main seal. So, what i can do ? do i need to change that seal ? i know i know, its gonna be costly, but maybe i can use some type of aditive or even sillicone, but i dont know. Any ideas ?
