I have noticed that when I gas my x at certain speeds there is a very little clutter noise coming from around the engine. I can sometimes here it while its idle and it seems like it might be coming from around the belt area. Its a 94' and I just bought it and I am not too familiar with the X's. Thanks

As in a vibration? Have you checked the belt? A 94 probably means it's about time to replace the serpentine belt. Take it off by loosening the belt tensioner, and inspect the belt for any burn marks, and replace it if you find any. You could also be hearing the infamous OHV lifter tick, but I think it's going to be in the belt.

If you hear it at idle too, then your muffler heat shields might be loose.....

I think it may be the heat shield on one of the cats. (the front was loose, the rear was fine) I just ripped mine off yesterday. 2 of the tack welds were not holding anymore so I just pried the sucker off with a BA screwdriver. rattle is gone and now I just hear my bum fan clutch :)
