Smoking the Tires

How many miles you have? I noticed it's a 2000 so i'd assume youy got not too many miles as of yet. I'd wager that by the time you hit 60,000 or 70,000 miles your little O/D light will be flashing. mine did at 91K and that was just from towing...towing isn;t as hard on the tranny as ripping up tires. Best of luck to you though...

is that what that o/d light is blinking for? mine only does that when i am offroading. and then another time after a crappy mudding trip it started to do it on a regular basis but it doesnt anymore. i guess the tranny fixed itself because it drives fine with no problems at all.

How many miles you have? Do you have an external tranny cooler and have you ever had your tranny serviced? If the light has already been flashing thats not good..... I would go easy on it or your bank account may be taking a hit in the next few months...

i am about to hit 46000 miles and no i dont have an external tranny cooler and have had no tranny service. oh i am not rough on the tranny besides the burnouts. other than that i drive about 20-60 even on the highway. and i think i can cover the tranny work if it does go. so i think i will be just fine.

with a manual transmission it's easy to smoke the tires. if you keep the pedal to the floor, you can keep them burning for a long time. i did that with my old firestones right before i got them replaced:)

By the way i just wanted to say to EXPO 5.0 man that is a nice ride you got there. I mean mi9ne is tight and all but not quite that nice. i expect after i put my rims on it will make mine look alot nicer. god i cant wait, they were supposed to be in today but most likely that means they will be in next week.

damn i didnt even realize there had been a page of posts in here since i had been gone!!!! i just read what some of your replies were. well to tell ya i wish i had awd but i dont. oh well no big deal there. maybe i misunderstood something there. did all the peopls in here have awd or something? if so then of course i can see why you all cant squeal them. you got twice as much rubber to break loose. anyways i have gotten all the squealing out of my system as of tomorrow. hopefully.

i spun my 31s today...in 1st gear (auto) in two wheel drive low range... it was a p[owerbrake with no abs.... it was 3-4 feet long... i impressed a guy at work with a civic si

once i get my 31's i dont think i will be ripping them up like i am my 235's and another reason i wont is because it might put to much stress on the tranny (not that doing it now doesnt) har har har. anyways

yeah, i bet our trucks won't even really spin them when we get the chargers on there. am i wrong that all newer 4 by x's are awd when they are not in 4 by
sorry Drew but mine IS gonna smoke the tires (plain ole 2wd, no AWD for me) but i wish i had AWD cuz when im done with mine its not gonna hook up too well...:D

an explorer with stock or tires that arent huge should be able to spin the tires good around corners almost any car can around a right turn on a little bit of an uphill, if done correctly my X would spin the tires pretty good but it also really depends on how you play with the throttle

my friend has an astro van with some kind of a vortec package on the motor and man that thing can spin the tires for quite a distance, pretty funny to see a motherbus lighting up the tires all the way down the street

and for me id never do this "powerbraking" thing that sounds like it can reek havic on quite a bit.

The thing with those astro vans is there is no weight in the rear...my neighbor has 2 and he has to load it all up with sand and bricks in winter to get anywhere. The Astros have the 4.3L Vortec engine (it's just the name of chevy's engines I think...i dont; think it's anything special)

ALso yeah powerbreaking will stress out a lot of parts!

oh, didn't know that man. I wonder how heavy the awd components are? i wonder if the same truck would be faster or slower with the awd over the 2wd. i'm sure stock the 2wd would be faster, but when you start getting more power there might be a change over?

I have a friend with a huge chevy van....I don't know what the engine is but he sat next to me in the church parking lot and practically covered his van in smoke....it was awesome. That thing can fly too (for being a full size van).
I want to spin my tires but I really can't do it. Plus I just got new tires ($401) so I'm not spinning them.
By the way, it seems that my car is slower with the new tires (same size) is this normal??
Keep them smoking:D

Maybe you got a heavier LT tire with a larger load rating?

hmmm.....I don't know. I had Goodyear Wrangler Radial and now I have BFG Land Terrian. I guess I'll never know.

You got BFGs for $401? Every time I put Michelins(4) on one of my Xs, it's $500-$600 installed. Are BFGs that much cheaper? Or did you get a deal?

Have you checked the tire pressure of the new tires? I usually keep mine pretty stiff so I get better gas milage and it makes the truck feel a bit faster.

I got them from Walmart Supercenter. They were 83 a piece and then all the little extra stuff. The size is 235/75 R15.
Let me make sure I'm talking about the right stuff: BFG is BF Goodrich (<-----spelling???)

I don't burn much rubber in my 4x4 X, and I don't go off-roading in my Lightning

seems to work out...
