The center console or arm rest in my Explorer has just broken.

Looking at it the black plastic base on the actual arm rest has snapped on one side at the back where one of the prongs goes into it. The prong things either side on the base are metal and hence still in tact.

I've found a lot of tutorials on how to repair a ripped or scuffed arm rest, but not one that needs fixing back on so it hinges up and down again.

Any advice on how to repair, or where to replace, the broken part would be really welcome. Thanks.

is it completly snapped off or just broken but still attached.

either way take it off and use some two part plastic epoxy(the good stuff) and that sould keep it together

This stuff works great

For my 2001 XLS

Mine broke off 2 months ago. I drilled from underneath where the old screws held into the plastic, and used 3" machine screws to re-secure the broken piece back on. After using long screws to re-secure it into the upper plastic (just under the top cushion), the rear cup holders will not pull out, and the armrest will not flip up. I was willing to comprimise this for increased stability.

i bought a repair kit off of ebay. it replaces the black plastic backside of the arm rest lid, which is where they crack. mine broke completely off and would slide around under my elbow while i drove.

the kit replaces the plastic bottom with metal.

do an ebay search for ford explorer arm rest and i'll be at the top.
