i got the replacement engine into the '99 eb.

i have minor problem to sort out. and one maybe not so minor.

the air suspension... obviously it's the same **** everyone has. i'm just wondering if it's as easy as just getting the shocks from a non airride explorer to replace it or if more involved.

the transmission is behaving strangely. it starts off in second gear and then when it's time to shift to third it downshifts into first for a second and then shifts into 3rd. all other gears are normal.

I can't really comment on the stock air suspension for the explorers other than I am installing some air shocks into mine which didnt have any like that from the factory...

On another note the tranny I can say you may need a rebuild.. From all of my research on and off the forum Explorers tend to have transmission problems. This is how I actually bought my 96 XLT 5.0 AWD the lady couldnt afford the transmission work that the shop did for her and so I came across it and just paid the bill and I aquired mine.. long story short mine still has some minor shifting issues and havent quite figured it out but good luck

Nathan, do you have a flashing TCIL (transmission control indicator lamp O/D OFF)? Also can you get a good scanner hooked up to that rig?

i had a scanner for my mustang but i sold it with the car.

yes i do get the O/D off light flashing but not all of the time...only after driving for about 15 minutes about 50% of the time.

You seem to think it is engine related. If transmission never acted up before it would be awfully coincidental. FYI, mine went at 160K.

No I don't think it's engine related. I think it may be harness related. I recently replaced the engine. And I had cut the harness but couldn't use the other one song had to solder it back together...and there are a couple instances of same color wires in 2 connectors by the trans.

And I don't know if it acted up before or not. I only drive it 3 miles with the messed up motor.
