well the mechanic took out our transfer case on our 99 merc. mountineer. AWD... took it apart hoping that we could just fix the chain issue etc.. but once got it out and took apart said there was no way. bearings were shot and other stuff and the case itself was destroyed...
so we are getting a used transfer case to fix our problems with a bill of about 1200 dollars:( but at least it will be fixed.....

we decided to wait on the "we hear a slight noise coming from your front wheel we think it is the front differential" mainly cause we cant afford both. and guess we will cross THAT bridge when we HAVE to........

wHAT kind of warranty for that price? Probably came from an insurance totalled vehicle then.

well no warranty that I know of...
but dont know what else to do being this is our only vehicle dont have the luxuary of shopping around...

that 1200 includes labor as well... wich there is some extra labor because we hoped to just fix the issue so they had to "tear down" the old one.....

Parts AND Labor you're not getting too bad a price, and since you trust the shop (earlier posts) that helps too. Maybe they can give you some kinda deal on free labor for replacement or something. I bought a used tranny from a reseller and got 90 day warranty!

thanks Verno... I appreciate that.. makes me feel a little better about the price:) and yes we do trust the shop but you always have that little voice in the back of your head wondering if you are getting a bad deal!!!!!

If it was going to cost that much, I would be having them put in a 4406 transfer case and ditch the awd. The awd cases can be picked up really cheap so I'm wondering where all the labor fee's are coming from as it involves dissconnecting the driveshafts, then the bolts holding the transfer case to the transmission.
