ok well ..after searching for a used trannyfor my 95 xlt with 4.0 ..that only a 95-96 tranny with fit? is ther any other years or other maybe mazda tranny with will fit? any way to make a new trany work on my truck?
ive also thought about throwing a carbed 302 in it and making it 2wd with maybe a c4 or somthing .. but im clueless on how i would have a speedo still? ive read around alot of the super imformative posts.. but im still just not really sure...

You have the 4R55E. Many RWD vehicles have this. The 5R55E has some different parts, but with a little modification you could get it to work. The 5th gear on the 5R55E is virtual. You could swap valve bodies or just some of the parts. The range sensors are different in the later models. Some have extra sensors. You could tell by looking at the case.
