So what made you pick (ex vs mounty)

Just curious why ppl picked an Ex over a mounty or vice versa.

For me it was all about price and features.

I had originally set out to get a 3rd gen v8 Ex because i wanted 4wd so I had a low range setting. But there were some other options that were more important to me, such as sunroof, audiophile sound, and auto climate control. I wound up with my mounty because it had every option i said i wanted before i started car shopping, and it was a good price.

I would've been happy with either an Ex or mounty as long as it had my features.

So why did you choose one over the other?

Different generation but I saw a 2001-2003 Sport and didn't want anything else so I spent the next 4 months hunting down a clean one

i picked my explorer based on price, and just love having the sport and this is now my 2nd sport and my wife also has one

I picked mine because it was A. Cheaper and B. i don't like the 4th gen mounty headlights and grill.

Me it was price came with rebuilt tranny and 7 month warranty and jfunny b/c i was looking for a small car but bought a 99 2 door sport.

I wanted AWD, V8, 3rd row seating.... Couldnt find any explorers that fit the bill in my price range, and all mountys are AWD and 3rd row seating.

Originally I was looking at Trailblazers but decided I wanted more interior space and wanted to get back in a Ford.

I was looking for either one.
I went to an auto auction - a friend who is a dealer got me in.

My requirements were
explorer/mountaineer
V8
3rd row seat
not white or brown

10000 cars a month sold at this auction and none of the explorers or Mountaineers were v8!

5:30 pm after sitting in the hot sun on a golf cart for 7 hrs, a truck rolled in and I spotted a black explorer on the top. As it rolled by I could see it was V8 from the logo on the tailgate.

After it was unloaded, I checked for 3rd row... bingo!

to top it off it had leather and a moon roof and 6 disc cd.

The only downside was it was 4x4. Don't really need that here in FL but I figured in a few years when I'm finished with it... I have an immediate buyer.... My father in Canada! He'd be happy as a pig in $h!t in 2012 with a rust free 4x4 Explorer! Of course he'd have to drive it the 2800 miles home.
