My passenger side timing went out...jackshaft bolt snapped. So my intention was to replace the likely damaged valves. I had checked the compression leakage and 1 & 2 were bad. I removed the head and there were telltale crescents in the top if those two piston heads.
Trouble is, when I removed the camshaft I found scuffs in the beds. I have attached a photo. The end beds are least scratched. The two middle ones are as in the photo.
There's no slipper to replace so does that mean a new head? Is it drive able like this?

poor design

It aggravates me that Ford implemented such a cheap approach with the SOHC V6 heads. No cam bearing inserts significantly reduce the service life of the head. I guess Ford decided that since the camshaft rotates at half the crankshaft speed they could get away without inserts. However, the jackshaft rotates at a slower speed than the crankshaft and it has inserts. I wonder if a machine shop could find a suitable insert for the camshaft and bore the head to fit. Anyway, the head and cap are bored to match the diameter of the camshaft journal so if either fails that normally means a new head.

What is the condition of the caps? Are the two inner caps scored like the head? What about the condition of the journals? I suggest measuring the clearance with plastigauge. If there are just scores but not excess clearance the engine could last for many more years.
