I think you're talking about the axle nut. If so, just remove the center cap on the wheel to get an idea how deep. Mine actually took a 31mm though. Most are 32mm.

2005 Axle Nut Size question

Hey there.
I'm new to the site. Just changing out front wheel hubs on my 2005 Sport Track. Can anyone tell me what size of axle nut socket I need for my 05 truck? Just trying to get the parts ready before the hubs get here.
I appreciate it.
Regards,
Aaron

Just changed te hub bearing assembly on my 96 this past weekend, there is an excellent howto about it on this site, perhaps search for posts by my name BAStumm (author search) as I replied after I finished the job but basically yes it needs to be a pretty deep socket. My standard 32mm didn't work. I had to buy a deep socket. The howto was excellent help for me with its pictures and great description.

2005 Ford Explorer Sport Track Axle nut

Hey there, thanks very much for the reply.
I took the weel off last night and spend about an hour getting all the bolts loose for my new hub this week. Here are some sizes that might help others.
On my 2005, there are two bolts that hold the caliper on, they are 15mm.
There are three that hold the hub in place, they are also 15mm.
The main axle nut (or spindle nut) is 1 1/4" (or 32mm). Make sure you get a deep socket. Now I just need the torque specs for putting installing the new hub assembly. Can anyone help me with that?
I appreciate it.
Aaron

There is a thread that is stickied to the top of this forum with step by step (with pics) procedure for doing this job, here is the link...

That thread listed the torque so best to look there but I torqued my axle nut to about 175 ft-lbs. My torque wrench only went to 150 so I torqued it to there first then I had my wife stand on a wrench about 15" out (marked with tape measure). She weighs about 135 and at 15" thats a 1.25 multiplier = 175. If you weight 175 you could stand at 12" (one foot) out on the wrench to do the same. Thats how torque is measured, foot-pounds means X pounds applied at a 1 foot radius. Obviously not as accurate as a torque wrench but If I remember correct the range for my year was 151 to 200 or so so I aimed for the middle hoping not to over or under torque. Also for good measure I tightened a little extra after this step...

Caliper & hub Bolt Torque Specs

Thanks very much for your reply. Got that marked down on paper now.
What about 15mm the caliper bolts and hub bolts? Do they have a torque spec? I really appreciate your help.
Have a great day,
Aaron

I'm sure there is a "spec" for the torque of the caliper mounting and hub mounting bolts but I just made them "real tight" and used red loctite on them.
