They should still have to fix it , the problem is a recall , for the cam tensioner(s) .. I'm the second owner of my Sport and it's being fixed free of charge . Goodluck ....
I just got a letter from Ford yesterday explaining the warranty extension of the front cam tensioner. The extension is 7 years from the original warranty start date or 100,000 miles whichever comes first. They did say that this warranty extension is tranfered to the new owner if the Explorer is sold. The letter came with a sticker to be adhered to the back of the warranty guide that came with the Explorer. The letter also described how to listen for the problem and they were explicit on listening to the front of the engine. Hope this helps.
