So I am having an issue with my 97 xplr 4.0 SOHC. It has a noise that sounds like detonation. It only happens under acceleration up to about 45mph, after that it goes away. I also have the thermostat housing leak again and need to replace it, so I was thinking about replacing the knock sensor at the same time because the wires are looking bad and thinking maybe thats my problem. So the knock sensor for the 97 models is around $100 but for the 2000+ models are way cheaper. It looks like it may be 3 wire vs 2 wire. Anybody know if you can rewire and use the cheaper later one on the earlier engine?
