blk mk8, there was another thread, maybe 2 weeks ago, or so (i forget the name of it), where you mentioned that you can get aftermarket maf's for the sohc, and i asked you a few general questions about it, but now, im a lil more serious about getting one. can you give me anymore information? i have a few questions here...also, anyone else who has any input, please feel free to share...

1) what size is the stock maf on sohc's?

2) im very interested in getting one, now that i know someone makes one for my truck; so with the mods i have already (kkm, superchip, lighter wheels, stock exhaust but the pipes are mandrel bent - long story, other cat backs were too loud for my taste - and a few other things, but that about covers all my power mods - other stuff is aesthtic and/or handling), what size would you recommend for me?...what would be the effect of going larger than the size you recommend?...going smaller than the size you recommend?

3) is it actually going to make a difference for me?..since i dont have a catback? (my engineering intuition makes me think it will, but ive heard rumors that it wont, since i dont have exhaust work done.) (i should mention that whether its going to make a noticeable difference or not, i want one anyway, just because i can :) , but i am curious as to what effects it will have; obviously, itll increase the amount of air into the engine.)

4) what brands are available?..which is better, and why?

5) how much $$?

anything else i missed?

sorry, if this is geared more towards my truck specifically; i hope other people can get some insight from this thread, too, but i need to know what i should get for my truck (i know most people with sohcs all pretty much have the same mods anyway, though, so, i hope they benefit from this info.)

also, i dont know much about maf's, i mean, i know what they do, but i have no idea about the effects of changing them is, like i said before, its pretty obvious that with a bigger one, more air can get in, but is there anything else?

i would appreciate any info/suggestions anyone can give me about this.

thanks.

(sorry this is so long :p )

well the best brand aftermarket mass air is going to be any thing by Proflow there mass air the pro-m are redesigned and work and flow better then the stock unit. the best unit for your truck is the 75mm unit. i do belive the stock one is a 65mm but i am not shure i do know it is the same as it is on the 5.0 explorers. it will make a difrence. they only cost 230 + shipping to where you are. they are the best on the market. if it works well on the 4.0 ohv then it will work just as good or better on the sohc. i have use a lot of them in the past. i hope this has help you out.

Do we have to call long distance to order?

Hey,
I'm pretty serious about ordering one, but don't feel like making a long distance call.... gotta save all the $ i can. How else can i order? THanx

blk mk8, yeah, that helps a lot, thanks :) do you happen to know where i can get one?...did i read somewhere on another thread that you can get them? if you can, id be very interested, in a few weeks. let me know.

oh, also, arent there different types?...like a bullit or a flange?...which do you recommend?

thanks.

depending on they year they make ones that are supose to be direct bolt in to the stock air box. for the sohc they make a flange one like the stock so you can bolt in right in. this is the best thing to do that way if you dont want to buy a expensive setup with tubes and filters you can just buy a 30 dollar K&N and cut up the stock air box. for ording you can just email me you dont have to call me. my company website is www.speedfreak.cc you can reach me there for ording or any info needed. some of the parts there are not listed correctly and are just a brod idea for parts for your trucks. just let me know when you guys are ready.

well, i have a kkm, not a stock airbox anymore, but that shouldnt matter, should it? itll bolt up the same, right?

it should not matter at all every thing should be just fine with the KKM kit.

awesome! thanks. ill be in touch in january/february :)

Is this the same as the Mass Air Sensor? Like the ones that Granatelli makes? I thought theirs was something like 80MM.....maybe I should go hunt down my Performance Parts catalogue again  but it was like, $300, I think....I would like to get one if it'll add power to my K&N and Flowmaster-just not for that much money!

blk mk8,
do you guys sell MAF's for ohvs? specificly a 95.

and ive heard alot of different opinions but do they really make a noticable difference?
thanks
-mike

Does Proflow come in 2 different sizes for the explorers? I see the common available sizes are 70mm and 75mm. Correct me if am wrong. Also, what the performance difference between them if there are several sizes? Bigger..the better?
