Ok I'm posting this just out of an idea that popped into my head. I know later gen sohc motors "fixed" the timing chain casting with metal ones. My question could you put a later gen sohc motor in our gen to make it more "reliable" I know probably not but like I said random thought.

afaik internally all sohcs are the same. not much changed tbh except the guides, oil sprayer, etc. even if you get a later sohc id say change guides anyways. and no the casting was no different the guide material afaik is the same they just aded more backing leaves to the guides, and updated tensioners. i think all he bottom end is the same, but the top end oil sprayer changed and the guides changed. all the changes im aware of.

Interesting well I got my updated tensioner sitting in a box waiting for my engine I'll put um whenever I get the new trannie I probably keep the original engine till it dies lol it's got to die sometime with 200+k miles on the engine. I heard something about the guides but hmm wrongo.

the bottom end on the sohc is bulletproof, only the top end and guides have any notable issues imo

As long as i slam my peddle and wait for that oil pressure gauge to jump up to normal she's got no problems.

good to hear, these sohcs are tough.

Mid 2007+ sohc has different oiling to the cams and rockers (they delete the oil rails)

2003 was the latest update to the cassettes. Didn't know about the oil tubes

i beleve there were multile tenditions of the sprayvar before temoved

Spray bars never changed until they removed them
The spray bars help stop noise more than anything
They fill up with sludge then the top end sounds noisy
clean the sludge out and everything's quiet

You have to remove the spray bars to clean it each hole in the spray bar is A different size to keep oil pressure

Where are those at ofc that maybe my issue with noise on occasion instead of using seafoam to clean the engine.

They are right under the valve covers bolted to the cam caps.

So if my valve covers start leaking would recommend cleaning them. Sorry I'm used to ohv motors not the sohcs motors what would recommend using to clean them.

If they are full of oil sludge.
U can use a little mirror to see You can also unplug the crankshaft sensor and just crank the motor and look or I mean have somebody else crank the motor while you look lol
I used break clean the good stuff :) and a pipe cleaner ..like for crafting when you were a kid ...

These oil spray bars are yet another reason we must do frequent oil changes on this motor

The good thing about my ltd is it has the computer in the center console that tells hey I need an oil change I'm third owner of this thing original engine and it rattles if you crank with out building oil pressure. I'll take a look at cleaning those this summer.

No need to get all bent out of shape
Remember I have been playing reading ect... About these motors for years
nah i wasn gettin outta shape, just meant i like oh whoops nevermind! i trust ya mroe than the reading i done prior

Where do you look at with the mirror crankshaft sensor. Oil fill cap. Just curious I'll probably do the crankshaft sensor.

Remove the valve covers and then use a mirror to look up under the spray bar
