OK. I have been in a dialogue with Gibson about the exhaust for the Sport. The website says that it is for the SOHC. However, the footnote says that it is for the "stock single inlet muffler."

Now, I asked them about this and they said that the Explorer they made the protoptye from was an SOHC witha single inlet muffler. Are there any of those? If you have one let me know.

Next, how is the exhaust set up on the SOHC. If there is a single inlet SOHC, would the exhaust be the same from the muffler back? I imagine the rest of the piping wuld be the same. I'm just wondering i the SOHC "single inlet" system would fit the OHV.

If nayone knows or can look at both the SOHC and OHV exhaust and compare the layout I'd be grateful. Thanks.

I own a 97 XLT SOHC and I just ordered a Gibson exhaust from 4wheelparts.com. I too had the same question since I have a dual-in, single-out muffler, they said they contacted Gibson and were told that it will fit, we'll see. I think I might send it back either way, I'm thinking about going with a dual setup.

I'll let the board know either way the Gibson muffler setup, I'm expecting delivery Dec. 19th.

All SOHC & 5.0L Explorers are dual in/single out mufflers. The OHV has a single in/single out. There is no economical way to fit a single inlet OHV muffler to a dual inlet exhaust. I would bet that Gibson has no idea what they fit the exhaust to. They definately did not fit it to a SOHC Explorer with a single inlet muffler unless someone peformed a complete exhaust swap on it.

I hope they don't end up charging you freight both ways. Of course if it doesn't fit after they said it would, they should eat the freight both ways. It can't be cheap sending an exhaust back and forth. It'll probably run about $50.

Believe me, they_will eat the shipping cost if it doesn't fit.
