Sohc vs ohv mass air

2000 X, is there a difference between sohc and ohv mass air meters? Are they interchangeable? At what point is the stock meter a restriction? Heard the sohc was an upgrade.

MAF sensor restriction

I replaced the stock 55 mm MAF sensor on my Sport with a 90 mm. I doubt the performance improvement was even measurable. The main justification to increase the diameter (and flow capacity) is when enough modifications to the engine have been performed that the airflow thru the engine could exceed the capability of the sensor. When that happens the engine can run dangerously lean. Unless you have ported heads with large valves or a boosted engine the stock sensor should be adequate.

Thanks guys. I suspected that. I removed and sanded smooth all the molding flash from the inside of the stock sensor. Figured it may help it get a more accurate signal. Smooth clean laminar flow can't hurt and it didn't take much effort. I also bellmouthed the inlet opening at the filter housing.
