Some have it - Some don't!

I've recently purchased 2 - 2001 Explorer Sports for my kids. One is more "dressed" than the other. The "dressed" one has factory front tow hooks coming out through the bumper. The other one doesn't.
I'm just wondering why and what's the difference?
I know that there's an expert out there that knows!

I could be off, but I wuld say it is just the packaging differences that were setups or selected from the factory, or whoever first purchased the 2001's.

Very possible dealer added on the options to the dressier truck. All those dress up items are available at your local Ford parts dept

I say remove the dressy stuff from the nicer one and sell it on Ebay or better yet put the parts on your truck!
Then both kids get even trucks to play smash up derby with.

Mine has the tow hooks. I didn't think they were an option. Are both of your '01s 2wd, 4wd or one of each? They may have been an option on 2wd, but standard on 4x4s.

i'm pretty sure 2WD didnt have hooks. i've seen that era with out hooks lots of times

I could be wrong but I'm guessing the tow package comes with front hooks and a trailer wiring hookup. If it doesn't have the towing package you get neither?

I got my Explorer for a present and I'm not a girl so I guess I'm an exception too.

The tow hooks only come with the Premium Sport Group. The package includes: fog lights, tow hooks, 255/70R16 (4x4) 235/70R16 (4x2), 16" Bright Cast aluminium wheels, and side step bars.

All this out of my 2001 Ford brochure.

That is EXACTLY right! All of the options that you listed are on the Expo with the hooks, along with several others. Neither are 4WD.
By the way, for those who asked... The pretty gold one without sunroof, leather or fog lights is for the girl (with much lower mileage). And the slick black one with all the goodies is the boys. They both picked 'em out.
FYI... I got a beat up 65 Impala that we couldn't sell in 1973 for my first car. Go figure...

I had to buy my explorer from my parents, they told me if I wanted it I would have to pay whatever the dealer offered in trade in. It sucked, though I bought it anyway.
