I am new to GPS systems. I want to follow some of the trails that has been posted in 4wheeldrive & SUV magazine. But don't know which GPS unit would work. Do all of them have the capability to input GPS coordinates or do I need a specific one?

Thanks

Tim

Pretty much all gps units have the ability to input coordinates. Even alot of car based gps units have a coordinate input. Are you interested in a handheld style that can be used for hiking, and geocaching, or more of a navigation style that will spend most of its life in a car?

more than likely just a vehicle mounted one.

If you are looking for a vehicle mounted one I would recommend the garmin nuvi. They make alot of different models but they should all have a feature where coordinates can be input. There hand held GPS units that can be used for road navigation such as the garmin Oregon or garmin Colorado but they are alittle more complicated to use and don't typical have recharable batteries like the car models do. I have the Garmin Nuvi 250w and it has a coordinate input feature that works nicley. BTW i have had much better luck with Garmin GPS than I have with Magellen GPS. Also don't get a tomtom or something like that because they are substandard when compared to a Garmin. Hope that helps

Thanks

I'll second the Garmin idea. I own the Nuvi 205 and it has the option for coordinate entry with three different ways to enter it. It was $99 at wally world.

I think that the least expensive Garmin Nuvi will do exactly what you need. I've got the bare bones Nuvi for in my car and a Garmin eTrex Vista for hiking.

Yeah 205 thats what ive got. 250 205 same thing different order lol
