2002 ranger xlt
Hello all, im new to this forum with the recent addition of my 2002 ranger XLT.
i saw the ranger forum below but i dont think it gets many views, im sorry if this is misplaced

ive reseached the many problems with explorer 4wd's including the transfer case motor rebuild post but they dont seem to hit on the rangers too often.

like i said its a 2002 ford ranger xlt 4wd.
on the dash it has the knob you turn to select 2wd 4h or 4L but the truck is currently stuck in 2wd...when i turn the knob to select either 4H or 4L, nothing happens. No clunk under the car, no dash lights, and no relay clickin inside the car.

also im not sure if this matters but when i first start the truck and all the gauges and idiot lights go through their checks....the 4wd lights dont light up.

Where is the processor board located in the rangers? i learned that there supposedly is a white button you can push on the processor to determine if the board is bad or good.
i found the processor in my 95 explorer in the trunk area by the washer bottle and jack.

thanks in advance

Thanks, I found it to be the 4x4 control module for people with similar problems, in a 2002 ranger its located behind the passenger side kick panel

Thanx

Just wanted to say thank you to those who posted this item and answered it. My 4wd (02-Ranger) would not engage as well. The Ford dealer diagnised the control module but I wanted to install it myself....learning the location helped me...I now have 4wd!!

One other point, however, my 4wd high is now working fine and the 4wd low light flashes on in the dash when I first start the truck but it will not engage in 4wd low? Any common reasons?

when you turn the switch to 4x4 low, does the light come on in the dash and it just not engaging mechanically?? or does nothing happen when you turn the switch? if thats the case, your shift motor on the transfer case itself might be bad.
