- 98 Mounty
Hey all, I have a 98 Mountaineer. I've been in the forum, mainly in the lowering section. But, now I'm getting a tranny problem. I'm getting that 2-3 flare shift you guys are talking about. (I believe so atleast, at the end of two it hesitates shifting to 3rd, that's the 'flare' prob. right?) Well, this is the second tranny that has been in this vehicle, when I got it about a year and a half ago, 30 days or so after I got it the tranny went, like, smoking/not shifting/when it does shift, sounds like crap. So I went and bought a used one from a trusted salvage yard around here. I made a deal with the place I bought the Mounty from and they put it in for free for me. So now that I told you the life story about my Mounty since I got it. (kidding)
I was wondering if there may be a problem with something else. Maybe something that isn't replaced when replacing the tranny that could do something to it. If not, what would be the order in which I try something cheaper then having it rebuilt or switched? I believe a few things were flushing it, replacing a part, and rebuilding a part.
Also I was wondering if just flushing it and replacing the filter could help it. Since it was swapped 1.5 years ago, could something be clogging the filter and making the fluid not move enough?
