98 Mounty
Hey all, I have a 98 Mountaineer. I've been in the forum, mainly in the lowering section. But, now I'm getting a tranny problem. I'm getting that 2-3 flare shift you guys are talking about. (I believe so atleast, at the end of two it hesitates shifting to 3rd, that's the 'flare' prob. right?) Well, this is the second tranny that has been in this vehicle, when I got it about a year and a half ago, 30 days or so after I got it the tranny went, like, smoking/not shifting/when it does shift, sounds like crap. So I went and bought a used one from a trusted salvage yard around here. I made a deal with the place I bought the Mounty from and they put it in for free for me. So now that I told you the life story about my Mounty since I got it. (kidding)

I was wondering if there may be a problem with something else. Maybe something that isn't replaced when replacing the tranny that could do something to it. If not, what would be the order in which I try something cheaper then having it rebuilt or switched? I believe a few things were flushing it, replacing a part, and rebuilding a part.

Also I was wondering if just flushing it and replacing the filter could help it. Since it was swapped 1.5 years ago, could something be clogging the filter and making the fluid not move enough?

The tranny was replaced about 30,000 miles ago and that's when it was all done. (2 years in march) Lately I've been counting the shifs still, and it seems like it soemtimes does it 2-3, but mostly 3-4. Then again I could jsut be messing up trying to count and driving around the one way streets of Providence, lol. Oh, and what's EPC stand for?

clogged tranny cooler maybe. Would bypassing the cooler and just turning your Tranny cooler line back into the return line just to see if you have issue a good test?

my 2 cents....my 1 cent really..

OK,haven't been on in a long time cause no net, and my twin boys were born. In other words, should I do the write up on the EPC and see if that will work? Cause obviously it's cheaper then replacing the tranny. Am I getting it right here?

Well congrats on the new additions to your household.
Twins....awesome:salute:
