I was wondering if anyone had any alternatives to dynamat for sound proofing the doors. When I did a search I saw that Monkey Boy used reflectix, or something like that, and some sort of undercoating? Anyone using a similar setup? anyone have any pictures of it? Any other suggestions?
Thanks
Mark

This may not be exactly what you are doing, but I have "experimented" a bit:

When I running CD wires on my daughter's Malibu, I picked up the rug and there was a mere rubber lining of "nothing" under there.
I got some of that two sided reflective sound proofing matting. It about a 1/2 inch thick. They sell it a pep boys for about $19 a roll. I put it under the front and rear floor rugs and fooled around with it in sections of the trunk. It seemd to drop the road quite a bit.

It made a real big diference on my 67 PU, but anything would have been an improvement.
I have something closer to a rug underlayment, not foiled face. It is a lot cheaper I going to try it on my 97.... I'm not sure how it is going to take the moisture or maybe even smell. Doing a small area may be my first test.

I've have had the door panels off on my 97.... God bless you if you can find room for anything more than what is already there. The panel pops are a big enough pain as it is. To add anything more in the panel, well....
I'd be curious to hear from the troops on what they have done.
If I had to guess, I would think undercoating might not be the most effective thing for sound proofing.

There was a thread a while ago about the sprayfoam. One idea that i had was buying the thin coarboard (about 1/8" thick) and using that as dynamat. But I don't know. Rubberized undercoating on the inside of the door panels works well too. I learned that one thanks to Leenjen!

I mean corkboard. Or however the hell you spell it, it's late!

sound proofing a car would suck. u should share sound with people, spcailly at 3 am on a weekday

soundproofing is good for the sound quality. it eliminates road noise, wind noise, engine noise, etc.. inside the vehicle. your subs will sound better and hit harder inside the vehicle when driving if you eliminate vibration and outside noise.

Sound proofing, or sound deadening is very important to increasing your sound quality and volume. By adding products such as Dynamat to your system you will eliminate rattles and increase your SPL by keeping the sound inside your truck.

If I wanted to share my music with everyone around my car I would mount one of those huge outdoor bull horn things on the top of my X and drive around blasting it; static, distortion, and all.

A couple of questions, first off where can I get some of that undercoating stuff, tried advanced auto parts and couldn't find any. Second I still want to know if anyone else has tried that reflectix stuff, I was able to find that at Home Depot, it seems like it might do the trick, but I just want to here what people who have tired it think about it. If not I will go with one of those generic dynamat types, I'd just rather go pick it up, rather than have to order it, I guess I'm just a little bit impatient sometimes.

you can buy the undercoating at wal-mart.
it's something like $3-$4 per can. it only takes a little on the inside of the plastic panels to stop vibrations. i used it and it worked great.

I have tommorow off so I am going to attempt this Tommorow. So first when I apply whatever sound proofer it is I am applying(think I'm going to try the reflectix) I apply it directly to that gray moisture barrier thing, correct? Second where exactly do I spray the undercoating, do I remove just the speaker and spray it behind there or do I remove the black thinggy that speaker is in. And any tips on removing the door, I saw the post in general explorations, but anyones personal experiences? Wish me luck.
