I know this sounds strange but I hear what sounds like chains jingling when I go over bumps. I have looked and looked but can't see anything that would create this sound. Any ideas?

Thanks!

maybe wiggle your exaust pipe after it cools off could be your cat falling apart .
Mine did this last summer .

could be the heat shield for the cat/muffler...that sound is likely exhaust-related

If it's a 4x4 could be noise in the transfer case. I had the same issue on my 01 Sport and took it in...appears Ford made changes to the T-case via a recall and I got the fix done. MUCH quieter now...no more CHAIN noise!

Good Luck!

Check the left side of the front axle housing, looking from the rear, there is a bolt that goes from top to bottom and it breaks towards the bottom and hangs there jingling.
I had a jingler, it drove me nuts. Sounds just like a chain touching the ground.

Check your transmission cooling lines. I knocked a clip off mine while replacing the cam chain cassette and it sounded just like chains rattling.

You had it exactly "mckenzieslayer". My bolt actullay fell out. I had a shop put it back in, but they say the nut broke loose fron the weld that held it in place. They just put some locktite on it. I hope it holds but I have my doubts since a weld didnt. What did you have done to it McKenzie?

sorry for the late reply

I couldnt figure out the reason for this bolt being there and it drove me crazy for such a long time...
I removed it .
I thought about threaded rod but just left it out.
No effect?
We will see.

Mine had that chain noise too and it was exaust related. It somtimes was rattiling over bumps and then one day my stock exaust got really loud in comparison to what it had been. THen it started rattiling all of the time. It turned out that the clamp that holds the pipe ot of my cat to the muffler had rusted off so they were hitting eacother. Now i put one bolt with a new clmp it dosnt rattle but it is still loud.
