Now with the trouble with Napster, does anyone know of a reliable source of MP# music files?

Thanks in advance....

I was pulling MP3s off the net for a while before Napster was around. There are many ftp search sites on the web, but they rotate urls frequently. I've actually been using Napster a bunch recently so all my search utils have rotated and I have to find them again. But anyway, search around the warez sites and maybe use a search engine to find an ftp search site. They usually all cross-link, so if you find a few you've found them all.

hope this helps!

Don't be so cheap go and buy the CD...:D just kidding, go to www.bearshare.com and download their thing, it's not as good as napster but it does the trick..

CD-R Trades. some call it "Hyper Trading", you can put about 200 mp3s on a cd, plus save a lot of time on downloading. Do you have a burner? What type of music do you like?

www.kazaa.com this site utilizes a program JUST like Napster, but you can download audio, video, documents and images!!

hey aldive, curious this thread got moved, where did ya put it originally?

I agree with rustytr, www.bearshare.com is a good source. It is part if the gnutella network (which will be virtually impossible to shut down since it is not a single "server source") I've been using it for about two years now and ALWAYS get what I look for. You can also find other types of files other than mp3's on it, unlike Napster. Give it a try....I think you'll like it!

imesh.com is awesome, its like napster but better.

General explorations if I remember correctly.

iMesh has a trojan built into it for advertisements. Don't believe me? CTRL-ALT-DEL, notice "cd_load" and "cydoor".....goto http://cexx.org/cydoor.htm for the removal process. iMesh is an awesome program but when it runs programs in the background that I don't know about and slows down my system, thats a no no.

As far as napster alternatives, download "Rapigator"....you can add servers which it connects to and it lists all rapigator, open nap and napigator servers. I have about 8 servers that it connects to including napster. Most of the other servers are 10x as big (about 30000 users, 28 gigs) as napster so virtually anything you look for will come up. With rapigator you can also access chat rooms on napster or whatever other servers you connect too. You can also search for any type of media file....

Anyone out there interested in CD-R trades please contact me via PM, thanks.

noone is using Limewire yet ?

btw you can find it at www.limewire.com

i prefer downloading from the newsgroups....always whole cd's without too much hassle of getting them...

(about 30000 users, 28 gigs)

uhm. no offense but limewire got about 132 TB's of stuff...it's about the same as Scour if you can remeber that , only the interface of the program on this thing is 10 times better then any i have seen as of today...

that's 132.000 gigs for those who are wondering how much 132 TB is.....

Imesh sucks, go bearshare !

i agree with terrabomb, limewire is by far the best way to go. the thing i love the most is that i never have a problem finding a file and getting it at a respectable speed(100kb/s +).

That's great, 132TB but limewire allows you to share EVERYTHING. Which means that their is a lot of people who are sharing there entire hard drives without knowing it, you figure what standard now is 10 gig, so 5 users who don't know what they are doing, theres 50 gigs right there, no wonder why it's so huge. Not to mention any .doc you download will have the ms.init.a or ms.init.b virus.....but hey whatever tickles your pickle ;)

I would suggest using Imesh. This is what we use at College Park now that Napster is gone. Another quality program is Rapigator, since it uses the same server as Napster. I think that Rapigator is better and would recommend that one the most. Best of luck!

Have you ever heard of Norton AntiVirus or are you one of those that thinks an virus can't hit you ?....

the thing i liek about limewire is the multiple search (like 8 threaded searching)...plus you got to love resume button....

and yes i know everything is shared , BUT you can just type in MP3 on the end , and you will only get the MP3 extension files.....

How do you think I know about all these viruses? Because I don't think I won't get hit? Use your f**king head, Norton sucks anyway, it's only a name everyone knows, anyone that is serious about security doesn't goto norton, 132TB....Ha-ha.

did i ever say i was using norton ?....not that i know....i just used it as an example, i could have named numourous but i didn't think that was an neccesity in this case....

i always welcome an new virus i don't have on file yet, yep that's right people got some strange hobbies, mine is collecting virusses, i have been colecting them ever since my dad gave me an PC, wich is like 12 years now orso(i'm talking about real PC's), i started collecting faster when i got connected to what the call the web back in '94...things have changed dramaticly over the course of the years so has security.

i have been using Sharkbyte AV since they brought it out, and i'm still swearing by it.....
