I know this is a stupid question, but my sister got a flat tire on her explorer, and I need help on telling her how to replace it. She's in Florida and I'm in texas, so we're doin this over the phone. How do you release the spare??

It would be in her owners manual. But on my first gen there's a jack handel under the hood (right above the radiator), and a jack in the rear window washer slot. To release the spare I put the jack hanel (it's pretty long) into a hole in the plastic piece between the bumper and entrance to the cargo carrier. ONce you put it in there you just turn it, it'll engage the little winch so you jsut rotate the handel to lower the spare. It might be different on a new explorer but i would think that it would be similar.

Good luck

On my 95 sport, the bottle jack is in the rear driver side trunk compartment, the handles are under the trunk carpet covers. There is a hole just above the rear bumper behind the rear door, you have to open the rear door to see the hole. Insert the handle into the hole to crank down the spare tires.
Hope this helps.

If it's a 2002 and is the same as the second gens, at the back edge of the seat, the carpet pulls up revealing some long extension handles, then the jack is in the side compartment. Use the handles, and find the hole right underneath the door seal above the bumper (door needs to be open) keep turning it and the wheel eventually lowers. On the 2002 XLT, they have a compartment in the rear floor that has a label on it indicating jack. I think the 3rd gen sports are the same as before though.
