1999 ford eddie bauer 4.0
1996 Sport. Went to lower the spare and inserted the crank. The crank engaged but it felt like it was turning nada. How or where to start from here?

I knowthis sounds like a dumb question. The crank can sometimes be hard to get positioned correctly in the slot to let the tire down, do you in fact have the crank positioned correctly. It sometimes requires a bit of fooling around to get the crank just right. Just a suggestion on my part.

have someone underneath (with jack stands used of course) apply down pressure (pull towards the ground) to the tire while someone cranks.

This may sound strange but due to the crank missing when I got mine I found I could lower it using the lug wrench. Just stuck the tapered end in the hole and turned. Worked great.

i use tire lug wrench as well, isnt that what you are supposed to use? also mine was pretty froze up when i had to use mine a month or two ago, got under it and sprayed a bunch of WD40 on teh cable and winch box part, had to stick the little nsel in one fo the spare wheel holes and spray and pray tho..

The jack handle is designed to be used to lower the spare tire, at least on my 96

If all else fails, the plastic socket might have been stripped by the rotating jack handle.
