Spare Tire Winch Assmbly

I need to replace the assembly as some numb nutz cut the cable. Suppose they need that spare off in a hurry.

Are these wasy to replace? I know I can get a new one from ford for under $100.

Any insight would be great. I would like to find a used one on ebay but don't know what to search for.

They come off with just a few bolts. Any pick-n-pull should have one for cheap and you'll only need a couple wrenches.

I replaced mine with a new one from Ford. It was only like $30 or something. I wouldn't go used, you never know how weak it might be (ie. already rusted). 2 bolts hold it in place.

I called the local Ford dealership here in Las Cruces, NM and they want approximately $100.00 for the spare tire winch assembly. I don't quite understand how the part can be so much cheaper in one location compared to another. Safety-wise, I agree that it's best to go with a new one.

Look other places online for it like rockauto.com and fastpartsnetwork.com. You could try LMCTruck.com as well.

Definitely do not get a used one, they have a history of breaking from corrosion causing you to lose the spare. Happened to mine about 4 years ago, don't know what happened to the spare, it flew off the road somewhere.

As mentioned by devillboy222 the end of the cable can get rusted and will eventually break due to the weight of the tire..

I know ford had a recall on this and replaced the cable with stainless steel.I pulled my spare recently and the cable is SS and still shiny,while the spare rim is rusty as it can get.
