spare tire...

i just bought a used explorer xlt, i love it so far! question though, that cable that is SUPPOSE to lower down pull the spare tire up is stuck, it only goes down like 7" maybe, any ideas why it is stuck and how to get it unstuck?? thanks

Sometimes if the winch for the spare is cranked too far, it will strip out internally. The only fix is to replace it.

sometimes if it hasnt been used enough it rusts and seizes up.i bought my '96 used and same thing happened to me when i put new tires on, the tire guy had to cut the cable some how to release it, so now i just put in the back on road trips, around the city i leave it

I took mine off when i got my rear bumper/tire carrier. Only has like 4 bolts holding it on, not a big deal.
