I just put some new Champion spark plugs into my 1991 Explorer XLT because it was due for a change...I put the new plugs in at the right gap and all the wires seemed to be in good shape...One problem....When I started the truck up, it misses badly...The exhaust smells real rich!...It just idles badly....Any suggestion of what went wrong and what step to take next..thanks for your time...Rags

First make sure to check all your vacuum lines. It's easy to knock one loose when you're down there changing the plugs.

What gap did you use? Did you put in double platinum plugs?

Just the standard Champion truck plug"4013"...I set the gap at .054...Checked all the vacuuum lines and still the same thing...rough idle with a rich smell of fuel...Any more suggestions?...thanks...Rags

Be absolutely certain you didn't cross a couple of wires.

It sounds like you crossed some of the wires.

Could also have damaged a wire during removal or install. Did you use a boot puller?

I think you are right!...I have been playing with it now for 4 hours...I think I might have screwd up wire 2...I doesnt click on like the rest of them do...I'll try that...Thanks all of you for your time!...Rags
