I called the dealership for a price on Motorcraft replacement plugs for my 95 4x4 Explorer and could not believe the prices!

10-11 dollars apiece for the platinum plugs? Is this crazy or what?

Last time I bought plugs for my 91 Ranger, they ran me maybe $1.85 - $2.00 apiece.

Does that price sound right?

Do you guys really pay 60+ dollars for a friggin set of plugs? I paid less for a set of plugs in my old 325 BMW!!

Is there a good aftermarket brand to replace them with? I have heard to stay away from the Bosch platinums, because of the breakage thing, but theres got to be another answer to the dealer price insanity.

Thanks!

ps- I have Carquest, Auto Zone and O'Reillys parts stores nearby (prefer Carquest, though)

Avoid dealerships like the plague....

Good luck

I run the bosch 4+ in the sport and they do just fine. In the four door I will probably stick some of the 4+'s in there too. They work really well at getting rid of the rough idle problem that these Explorers seem to get when hot. I don't remember quite what these cost me but I am thinking they were in the $4 range for each. Or soemthing like that.

Go to autozone, they've got Motorcraft Double Platinums for $3 or $4 a piece and they've got the Bosch 2+ and 4+. I just bought the Bosch 2+ for my 98 V8 and as soon as I put them in i'll let y'all know how they work.

I put Bosch 2+ platnium plugs in my 94 and it gave me more horsepower and I added accel racing wires the blue ones to boot and my truck runs faster and smoother. I paid 60 bucks for the wires and 2 dollars a piece for the platnium plugs.

there's a huge, not too old thread with a LOT of discussion about platinum vs not and everything else, do a search for it. Also the equiv plugs should be like 4 bucks from any parts store, don't buy parts at a dealer.
