I need to replace my spark plugs and was wondering what everyone is using in their 4.6 V8?

Any reasoning behind that?

Also how does one take the cover off the top of the engine. I noticed the 2 nuts above the alternator but is there another one in the back or is it just. A clip?

You can use the Autolite plugs as well. I believe but may be wrong... but the autolite uses copper and platinum, where the motorcraft uses strictly platinum for the core and electrode. The price of the plugs is fair from Ford and they do the job well. I've heard people have had issues with other brands but I have personally only used Motorcraft with my Explorer.
To change your plugs, take your cover off, then take out the air intake tube. From there, get a deep socket and your golden. I would recommend using an air compressor to blow out the debris that will be on top of the plugs before you remove them.
The cover has the 2 nuts from the alternator, and the rear has a tube in the back held on by a clip. You can see this from the rear. Besides that, it sits on two balls so just pull it off.

That's the company that Ford uses and it's what they "recommend". It's really up to you. You can pick up a set of plugs and wires for $52.99 at Oreilly's or you can go with a cheaper brand like duralast for like $32.99

Don't understand why people change from OEM spark plugs that are proven to work, extremely well. JMO

Be careful when installing the new plugs. There are only 3 threads that hold the plugs in the cylinder head. DO NOT use anti-seize (as this adversely effects the torque-ing down of the threads) and use a torque wrench to properly torque the plugs, I think the spec is 13-15 ft-lbs.

I have used the autolite plugs with no problem, the nex tset will be motorcraft.

I don't think I will ever put plugs in w/o some anti-sieze.

I've done it plugs multiple times on my 00 GT and have always used anti-sieze and haven't had any issues.

Thanks, I look into getting some Ford OEM plugs. Was thinking about some NGK plugs as another option.

Don't have the V8 but I have been running very smoothly with Autolite XP Iridium plugs. Love my Ex.
