I was just looking into building a set of spark plug wires for my 4.0, and I am kind of undecided on one thing. For the coils, I can either use the plastic clips like they come with stock, or use a rubber boot that kind of just slips over. I was wondering if anyone has tried the boots, and if they had any problems with the wires coming disconnected.

I am going to use BWD. Its a an orange wire, and I've made spark plug wires with it before. The last set I made for a car turned out fine. Its simple as long as you have a crimping tool. I could see it being a pain if you tried to strip the wire with a knife, and crimp it with a pliers. My main concern is the terminals for the coil. Every pre-made wire you can buy for the 4.0 has a clip instead of a boot to hold it on. They work fine, but after a while the clips can break off if you are not careful when removing them. It looks like I can get a rubber boot instead of the clip. I have some wires now that have broken clips, and they have not even come close to falling off yet.

I figure the boots are cheap enough, I'll give them a try. If they don't work out, I can change them to the clips, and report back here.
