I have about 92,000 miles on my X and I'm gonna be changing the oil, brake pads, and spark plugs this weekend...I was wondering if I should change the wires also...the ones in it now are stock...how much of a difference will it make? Also, what do people think of the Denso Iridium plugs?

I did both my plugs and wires last week. Honestly, I had to change my wires because I cut them to get them off the old plugs.

If I were you I would just go ahead and change them while you are in there. No sense having to take off the right front wheel and inner fender again to do the wires. They are not that expensive.

Def do the wires, it'll make a noticable difference, if they are stock. I am changing my plugs and wires @ 50,000 w/ Autolite copper plugs and Taylor Spiro plugs and plan on changing the plugs every 30,000 after that. Denso Iridum..... some people like them but I think you'll see equal results with a plat. or copper plug.

I would change the wires. My explorer had 123000 miles before i changed them. I just changed them yesterday actually and now it has more power, it idles better and there is no smell of unburned fuel from the exhaust. :)

Do the more expensive brand wires (Jacobs, Nology, etc.) make enough of a difference over the OEM wires that it's worth paying twice as much for them?

I just put the Autolite oem replacement wires and they were only $30 for mine. But i have a 92 with a 4.0L. When i got my wires the parts guy told me that for the 4.0L it wasnt really worth the extra money to get the high performance wires.

The factory ignition on these is excellent. A good set of OEM replacement plugs and wires is just fine.

I would definately change the wires too; its too easy to damage then getting them off the plugs anyway.

Good luck .....

I changed mine on my 1995 about 3 weeks ago. it is easier also since you do not have to be really careful pulling the wire off the old plugs..

getting ready to do 2002 including plugs and wires. did transmission last month it has 96000 miles on it so ford recommends quite a bit close to 100000 miles.

If I am changing spark plugs, I always change wires at that time too. You are already there might as well. I used autolite platiums, & taylor performance wires. Didn't see any difference in performance, but at least I know it will last a long time.

In all my vehicles I change plugs at 30K and wires at 60K.

It's just security that the insulation hasn't broken down and your vehicle will run good in the rain.
Stock plugs are fine for 30K.

The only time you will notice an improvement when changing the plugs and wires is when they are bad. Save your money and use the stock plugs and wires. Our EXs have one of the best ignitions systems made. Look elsewhere to try and improve your EX's performance.
