I have a 1997 ford ranger and I'm just trying to figure out which wire is positive and negative. I'm trying to replace my speakers with new one's. the new speakers have the positive and negative prongs mark but i don't know which wire is the positive or the negative on the original wiring. How do i determine which is which on the original wiring.

Just plug them in...if they don't work then just switch wires...you can't harm anything by plugging the ground to the power and vise versa

The speakers will actually work either way... that's the problem. If the polarity is reversed though the speakers will likely sound muddy or odd. The cone will pull in instead of push out. I'd use a multimeter to check if I were you. That's what I used when I put new speakers in my friends Focus.
