Okay heres the deal I need to buy new speakers for my 92' xlt, the only problem is that I'm not too sure about what brand to get. I dont want to win any competitions but I do want a nice system. I dont know a thing about amps so help there would be appreciated. Please help. Thanks

P.S. I'd rather stay with the 5x7's than go custom.

I would stay with Infinity Referance 5X7. If you want to spend more then I would go with Infinity KAPPA or MB Quart

I think that you will find that the Pioneer 6x8 3ways are greatly liked here. I just ordered 2 pairs so I will have them in a couple of days.

Go to a "quality" stereo store and listen to every car speaker they have; the best FOR you is what sounds best TO you.

Remember its YOU that will be listening to them.

Good luck....

I prefer Boston Acoustic "Rally" series.

just like aldive said, you have to listen for yourself.
speakers sound much different inside the car than outside. but if dont know anyone who replaced their factory speaker, or there are no car audio demo cars around, you can get a basic idea buy listening in the store. write down the brands mentioned in this thread and head out to the store to listen. maybe you'll like something that wasn't mentioned.

1 last recommendation. When you listen to the speaker do not believe that what the sound like in the demo board is what they are going to sound like in your doors.
Make sure that the place you buy them from will allow you to return them if you do not like the way they sound.
At work we have a 15 day policy for people. We will return them no questions asked up to 15 days with no restocking fee

that's rare, usually most places charge a "standard" 15% restocking fee. i think it's cool that there a still a few good businesses that are confident in their products and sales people.

In addition the comments about them not sounding the same in the store compared to your car, ask them to put the demo board by your knees. You'll get a better hint of what they'll sound like closer the the Explorer's locations.

Just kidding, well not really, sadly...

hey guys, thanks for all of your input, I'll take all of the advise into consideration. Does anybody have a sub with inclosure in the little storage area in the back? I've got another question, how do I get the front door panels off, I know how to remove to back doors but the front are giving me grief. Thanks

the front and back doors are very similar. there are plastic clips holding it on. try to use something long and flat to pry the clips loose, that way they wont break.

There are three screw - take a Philips head and remove 2 from the inner door handle area, and one from the top area just in front of the window.

Use a flat head and pry the switch panel from each at the bottom.

Carefully disconnect the switch panel controls from its wiring harness.

Remove the little black frame piece that surrounds the door handle release.

You can do this manually, but it's MUCH easier with the $3 trim panel remover. Start pulling the panel away from the door, it takes a firm pull to start removing it, but at the same time be *GENTLE*. It's easier to start at one end of the door either by the front or rear of the window then it is to try and start pulling from the middle (like the bottom).

The reason I say be gentle is because you have a 92 and the plastic is getting old and brittle, I have a 91 and every once in a while I have to pull out some plastics auto glue.

As you pull, once all the plastic rivets are released, you'll pull upwards to get it over the door lock. ]

After it's off, remember to disconnect the puddle lame by twisting the bulb harness before you pull the door completely off.

That's it!

You'll probably have a worse time putting the door panel back on then pulling it off. Tricky trying to get it correctly back in its groove and over the door lock pin at the same time.

Go slow and good luck!

Jon

If you have an old 1" putty knife you can cut out a 3/8" divet in it and it works great to take off door panels. Has anyone noticed the OTHER space in the rear door panels for an EXTRA 6x8? Hmmm . . . two speakers a door?

I have kicker Impulse 5x7's in my doors. I think they are rated to take 50 watts rms. I push 75 rms and they don't miss a lick!!! They sound good (for $100 speakers)and have decent bass response. I'd give these a look.

The New Infinity Kappa's sound sweet as honey in the stock locations. Make sure you get the new one's 572.3 They have tweeter pivots to angle toward the listener and the peak handling is 150 wtts and rms 100wtts. They have the new ceramic tweeter...not as bright as aluminum but still as smooth as silk.

I will have to agree with you on the new Kappa line there are great sounding. A vast improvement over the old green cone crap. They are such hot sellers for us that we are having a hard time keeping the 6X9s and
6 1/2 in stock.

I can't believe the newest Kappa's are running so inexpensively on sounddomain.com. What bad experiences did you have with the Green Cones to call them crap? Besides the fact that the .1 particularly didn't hold up well from weathering, which is the reason that Infinity made these and pushes that aspect on their website. Everyone on the car audio NGs like them till they find out they warped after a year or so.

i say go rockford. You can never go wrong with rockford.
