spedo eratic

hi all my spedo is eratic and is causing it to chop and change gears it is a intamitent problem i have an 02 explorer in australia and am a bit low on cash has anyone got any ideas on why or how to fix

Speed sensor. But why is the question. I'm not sure how the signal works on an 02. On my '99, the signal comes from the ABS module to the speedo. As long as you have one ABS sensor operating, you get a signal. If your 02 is the same, and you don't have an ABS light, then you must have a problem between the ABS module and the instrument cluster.
