speed limiter remove or not

neither do I,
and I don’t think it will be possible to do so anyway, not in a V6 version anyway

I'd mirror much of what was said above. The tires are the primary concern. Unless the tires are rated for more than 110 mph, you should not, under any circumstances, exceed the max speed the tires are rated for.

The other driveline components are secondary in my book.

Some of the few Explorers in Europe don't have the speed-limiter. As of 99 brakes were improved and the limiter removed. My 2000 Explorer's max. speed is 122 mph. But it's neither comfortable nor safe to drive an Explorer at those speeds, they're simply not designed for that. Explorers are well known here for eating trannys when going fast. Ford specifies max. continous rpm at 3750.

3750 is pretty fast...I tried to see what it was on my way home from work but could only get up to 80 and I was somewhere around 3000.
