2000 Explorer XLT 5.0 AWD
I have looked and searched as much as I can for a thread with this but to no avail. I have a 2000 XLT 5.0 AWD and my speedo and tach are having some issues. The tach will stick sometimes low and sometimes high and occasionally it will move as it is supposed to. The speedo sticks at different points and usually never returns all the way to the stop needle. If i tap on the cluster it will go up to what it should read and then sticks again. As i excelerate and decelerate, it jumps up and down and only rarely runs as it should. Even then it still reads about 8 MPH faster than what my Garmin says. The odometer is running just fine as well as all other guages. And I have no codes being thrown. I am assuming its the cluster and not the GEM or VSS as there are no codes. I have not modified anything. It is running the stock 255/70 R16 Tires. I have had the cluster out and all wiring looks fine and all plugs are connected. If I am right, is it possible to just swap out the speedo/tach cluster and be able to keep my original odometer? I would like to add white faces to it but not until I have it out to fix it. I have even had my dad pull up ALLDATA and nothing could be found there either. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. My wife would be much happier to drive it after this is fixed so that she doesn't have to rely on the GPS for speed.

EDIT: I have resigned myself to just swapping the cluster. If that fixes the problem, good then I will just install a set of indiglo guages or white face plates. If not, the website I found http://instrumentclusterstore.com/Default.aspx has a 30 day return policy, they don't charge a core, and every cluster listed is under a hundred.
