In my 00 the tach doesn't work all the time, sometimes it jumps to life and the other times its dead the whole time. Any ideas?

I was going to say check the wires that go to the coil, but I am not even sure we have one. My old ranger had a loose wire and did that.

I was thinking a loose wire somewhere as well, if I give the dash a tap SOMETIMES it will work but only for a minute. I thought maybe I loosened something when I installed my gauge bezel but I checked everything and it was all tight.

Not real sure where to look. If (huge if) we still have a coil, the tach should be hooked to it somewhere. Do you have a maintenance book you can look for the wiring in?

On the old ranger, one wire was just loose and made contact when it wanted to.

I have one huge coil pack, I'll look around there for a wire of some sort. I do have the factory cd so I'll take a browse on there

Thanks Robb. I thought they switched a lot over to electronic junk, but I never looked that close under my hood.

Anymore ideas ?
