sport trac wobble problem

I am trying to find the best way to stop the horrible wobble and body roll in my 4x4 spt trac. I have found a couple of things about an anti-sway bar for the rear that helps along with new shocks, but what is best.

New shocks and better tires if it still has the stock Goodyears. It will never handle like a sports car though. If it wobbles it could also be a broken belt in a tire or a bad tie rod end or ball joint.

I have new tires and they are good but do need new shocks. I know it will never handle like a car but this thing feels unstable going around corners and if you start to fish tail its over, no getting it back. I'd like to be able to control it a little better, more so like a truck.

Forgot to mention, it could also be a bad wheel bearing, which is possible on a 6 year old truck. First thing I'd do is get new shocks, then a front end alignment, and see how it is after that.

I've been kinda dealing with this on my rig. Granted 3" BL, 33s, and a Yakima roof rack don't help but I looked at my torsion bars and they're the stiffest ones Ford put on Xs. Safty inspection stated I have a tie-rod issue. Plan to change it tomorrow and I'll let you know.

I recently replaced the front swaybar bushings and that seemed to help. Then again I have 180k on mine, 120 of my own and none of the items mentioned have previously been replaced.

Bad hubs never seemed to cause me problems nor shocks. Ball-joints 'caused more vibration then anything else.

This has been the first I've ever been concerned about the stability of my truck, granted it doesn't seem to slow me down any.

Do you have a lift or not?

If you're a stocker, the best bet is a combination of a few items. First, a beefier rear sway bar. Explorer Express sells them. Second, a beefier front sway bar. The company that manufacturers one for the 4WD is escaping my memory right now, but I will get back to you. Third, better shocks than Ford's OEM garbage. I'd recommend Rancho RSX/Monroe Sensatracs if you're a relatively casual driver with only occasional off-roading, or Rancho RS5000s if you want something a little beefier.

The above, of course, also depends on whether your body roll is "normal" for a 2001 six years later, or if you do have other suspension issues...

wobble huh...I would recomend checking out the condition of your brake rotors...if they are rough, have them machined, or replaced...second balance your tires...as for the roll, check to make sure that both the factory sway bars are hookes up, I was under my trac one day, and noticed that one of the connecting rods had fallen out. after getting a new one from ford ford a ridiculous 75 bucks, the roll was no longer a problem
