the transmission has oil in it? omg i never knew that i knew it had tranny fluid. sorry about ur tranny not going in revese mine is acting up and it just got new fluid idk maybe it needs a flush it like hesitates and then like jerks hard into reverse

IM having the same exact problem with my 01 sprt trac right now

Sounds like we have a few guys on this board who are going to need a transmission rebuild.

What is a normal price for a full transmission rebuild? im being quoted $18-2500

Down here it might be a little cheaper but close to 2 grand sounds about right, its an expensive job.

Previous posts

Awhile back I had looked through posts regarding this same issue. Someone had linked an older post regarding the reverse gear solenoid. I have been trying to locate that without success. Can anyone direct me to that older post?

Mine did the exact same thing one night. I had my front end right by a boulder so i couldn't go forward. Reverse turned into neutral. It worked after some fighting, but then i only had first and second gear going down the road, it tried to shift to 3rd and hit neutral. I had to manually shift and keep it in 2nd. $1800 for a rebuild.

This is why regular maintenance on the trans/ transfer case are so extremely important on our Trac's and Explorer's.

Jeremy, if you just got new flluid and filter in yours and it's acting up I would take it back to the shop that did the work and tell them. Depending on how many miles and how worn out the bands are in the trans you won't wanna do a flush because the older gunked up fluid that is still in there is what's holding things in position adn keeping it going.

worst nightmare
