My 1999 V6 OHV is on it's last leg, pretty much on borrowed time. I have been told I have a cracked cylinder head. I am just trying to steal time. This is more for an educational experience than to actually repair the problem, unless of course it is simple.

If I take the car to an automatic car wash, or drive through high water, the vehicle seems to lose power, lights dim, and it sputters. But after a few moments, it will recover, and all is normal.

If it was electrical, I would assume it would just die.

Any thoughts?

Sometimes you can get water on top of the battery, or in some circuits, which can cause this, this is more common on Explorers without inner fenders, which tend to fall apart after time.

my 95 camry and 04 astro van would do this after rain.. both of them seamed to be fixed with new distributors plugs and plug wires... im sure it was the distributor though..
im guessing that is your problem... are your battery terminals clean??

Terminals are clean, and plugs, wires, and coil pack, are all less than two years old. Maybe the water on the battery, who knows.

Basically I just don't take it through the car wash :)
