i swapped out four door leaf packs into the rear end of my 98 sport and now maybe 3-4 mounths later they are starting to squeak when ever the rear suspension compresses.

i don't notice it when i'm driving by i definately notice it when loading and unloading the trunk and even when stepping in and out of the car.

i think i may need to change the bushing in the leaf springs is this an easy job to do.

about how much would it cost for the bushings and i could just press them in with a bench clamp right.

its the leafs on mine too. mine do it all the time... any movement in the springs causes the sqeek. its definately coming from the bushings on mine. i plan on replacing with some poly bushingsi think you can press them in yourself.. although i've never done it.

I get ALOT of skweaking but i think mine is from my shackles. I just blast my radio for a quick fix. Ill take a look at it some other day :o

i have also had the same problem with my old 91 sport, it was so bad that if you would get in or out it would squeak really loud. my 92 sport, which i just lifted, has also just started to do it, i am pretty sure that it is the rear spring eye bushing, because it just started to squeak a little bi with my new shackles. i would suggest that you replace the bushings, James Duff makes blue polyurethane ones that i am going to get. it is not really hard, just unbolt the spring, push out the old one, press in the new one.

Mine havent squeaked but i just put on my AAL's and they make a crackle sound once in a while- thats going away though so it might have been becaue of the new setup. Does yours actually sqeak or does it sound more like metal trying to expand?

definately a sqeak I think it also has something to do with. only one of my spring packs has a metal clamp thing on the actual springs and the other was damaged beyond repair while the guy too them off the old ex.

squeeky leafs

I read someplace that the leafs should be greased on both sides at the end or on the flat bushings to eliminate this, Also minimizes corrosion and debris entry. I greased mine, assembled them, then undercoated the whole assy. Havent heard a peep yet..

I've ordered poly bushings (I think they're Prothane, or Energy Suspensions.. they had both). I'll be installing them when I put my 4 door leafs on. The only hard part with bushings might be getting the new sleeve in there, but if the leafs are off the truck it should be pretty easy. We got the old bushings (which were coroded as hell) off using a 2' piece of train track rail as an anvil and a BFH. It was kinda fun ;)

I have a lot of squeaking in mine. For example, when I hit the gas from a full stop and the weight shifts to the rear, I hear "creeeeeeeeaak" or when I go over a speed bump. Does this sound similar to what you guys are experiencing? I've been thinking it's the leaf spring bushings, too. How do you take the springs off? Do you remove them completely or just unbolt each end one at a time? Does it need to be on jack stands?

I know this is an old thread but I have the same problem and didn't want to bother with a new one.
